Undefeated Sporting Kansas City tops Galaxy

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) - Kei Kamara scored on a diving header late in the first half and Sporting Kansas City beat the David Beckham-less Los Angeles Galaxy 1-0 on Saturday to improve to 5-0.

Sporting is the first club to begin a season with five wins since Los Angeles opened 12-0 in 1996, Major League soccer's inaugural year. Kansas City also extended its home unbeaten streak to five matches against Los Angeles, which is 1-3 after winning the MLS Cup last season.

Kansas City has four shutouts in five matches, and goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen did not have to make a save against the Galaxy.

Beckham has been plagued by a series of nagging injuries and didn't make the trip. Landon Donovan returned from a quadriceps injury that kept him out of Los Angeles' 3-1 home loss to New England.

Kamara scored his third goal of the season, connecting in the 40th minute off Bobby Convey's first assist with his new team. Kamara beat right back Sean Franklin to Convey's cross at the edge of the 6-yard box and curled the ball inside the far post.

RED BULLS 4, CREW 1

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Thierry Henry and Kenny Cooper each scored twice to help New York beat Columbus.

Cooper scored in the third and 13th minutes to give him six goals this season, and Henry added goals in the 40th and 90th to regain the MLS goals lead with seven.

The two forwards have scored all but one goal this season for the Red Bulls (3-2).

New York won its third straight behind rookie goalkeeper Ryan Meara. He had seven saves but lost his shutout in the 89th minute when Chad Marshall scored on a header off Kirk Urso's corner kick.

The Crew dropped to 2-2.

IMPACT 2, TORONTO FC 1

MONTREAL (AP) - Sinisa Ubiparipovic and Andrew Wenger scored to lead Montreal to its first Major League Soccer victory.

Ubiparipovic, making his first appearance, scored in the 17th minute in front of 23,120 spectators at Olympic Stadium. Wenger, the Impact's first overall draft pick, made it 2-0 in the 81st minute.

Montreal improved to 1-4-1.

Danny Koevermans scored in the 88th for Toronto (0-4-0), which was reduced to 10 men after defender Logan Emory was sent off in the 65th minute.
