As anyone who's ever tried to shed a few pounds can attest, weight loss isn't easy. But for some who manage to drop much more than a few pounds, the difficulties don't always end when they reach their goal weights. An upcoming TLC special called "The Real Skinny" addresses a painful problem those who were once morbidly obese face -- the sometimes debilitating amounts of excess skin left behind.
A sneak peak for the special reveals one woman's emotional reaction as she prepares to be ?cut in half and put back together? in a circumferential body lift surgery.
Sarah's pre-surgery anxiety led to tears, and her surgeon explained that it might not even be the risky procedure that upset her the most.
"It's very essential for plastic surgeons to take before, during and after pictures as part of the medical record," he said. "However, for the patient, it can be very traumatic. As a patient even told me today, the worst part of this whole thing, of the body lift -- the breasts and the arms and the face and the legs -- are the pictures."
See if Sarah's procedure is a success when "The Real Skinny" airs Mar. 12 at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
